I earned a journalism degree (with a sociology minor) from Texas State, 2012, then did what a lot of grads quietly do: stayed in the job I already had. For me that was restaurants. I moved into back-of-house kitchen roles because the steady hourly beat living on tips, and then years went by.

What didn't stop was the tinkering. I'd come home from a twelve-hour shift and flash a Raspberry Pi, rewire an LED controller, or chase a kernel bug for fun. Somewhere in there it stopped being a hobby and started looking like a career I'd been training for without noticing.

what I'm about

Two instincts run the whole operation. The journalist wants to understand a system well enough to explain it plainly. The maker wants to build the thing and find out where it breaks. Put together, that's basically what IT support and technical writing are — which is exactly where I'm headed.

Off-screen the long game is passive income and eventually a homestead: self-hosted infrastructure I own, hardware I can repair, and a setup that doesn't depend on anyone else's cloud.
